Fairfield County’s 165th annual county fair is October 11–17, 2015. We’ll be there for our fifth year, serving half-pound and quarter-pound hot dogs with all the toppings to our wonderful community. And of course we’ll have root beer, orange, and strawberry floats, so…
Don’t forget to bring your Dandy Dog mug!
We’ll also have our new mac ‘n cheese all week. And remember, Thursday is our traditional Barnacle Bill’s GUMBO NIGHT! Ask for it early ’cause once it’s gone, it’s gone! Those gentlemen who run all the rides, as well as our fellow concessionaires, all know we do this every year, and they line up for the spicy seafood New Orleans stew.
They plan to be there most of the week, and it’s worth taking a peek in the early morning (yes, we arrive about 9 a.m. to start lovingly preparing our hot dogs for our customers) when their trainers wake them up and walk them around the grandstand track a few times. Here’s the official parade schedule, too:
Tuesday, Oct. 13 @ 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 14 @ 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 15 @ 6:00 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 16 @ 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 17 @ 1:30 p.m.
And in addition to hot dogs and brats, we’ve brought our favorite Italian sausage!
Don’t forget that Amanda has free fireworks Saturday night at 10 pm, and rides for the kids all day long. There are plenty of craft vendors, including Tupperware, and activities all evening and all day Saturday. One of the highlights is a pie auction, where delicious homemade pies sell for a hundred dollars to support the cause.
This is a small-town festival that financially supports its volunteer fire department. Those folks work hard every day to make sure their community stays safe.
And don’t forget to bring your Dandy Dog stein and get your $2 root beer, orange, or strawberry float!
Dandy Dog! will be at Canal Winchester’s 2015 Labor Day Festivities this weekend, September 5–7!
We’ll have our yummy half-pound and quarter-pound hot dogs, root beer and creamy dreamy orange floats (and, yes, Facebook fans, maybe another super secret float flavor), all the toppings you can handle, and some delicious mac & cheese to top it off.
Here are the highlights:
- Free rides on Saturday!
- Music every afternoon and evening on two stages
- Over 21 tent sponsored by Kingy’s
- Cruise in on Sunday morning
- Labor Day Parade at 1 p.m. on Monday

5th Annual Half-Pound Hot Dog Eating Contest Offers Cash Prize
Dandy Dog! LLC and the Lancaster Fairfield Chamber of Commerce to cosponsor annual event with the 4th of July committee
This year’s contest marks the second year the winner will receive a cash prize. $100 will be given to the person who eats the most hot dogs (by weight) in 12 minutes.
Potential competitors should sign up at the Dandy Dog food booth by 4 p.m. on July 4, 2015.
The competition will be framed with music by Columbus band Third Departure from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Last year’s winner, Rob Cothern of Lithopolis, ate nearly three hot dogs (with buns) in the 12 allotted minutes.
Join Us at the Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival!
After the rides, have a Dandy Dog root beer float (or creamy dreamy orange float or strawberry float) because, man, it’s HOT!
But you’re still hungry, right? So have a 1/4 pound hot dog slathered with some meaty chili and cheese. Or how about bringing some of the Windy City with a cool Chicago Dog?
We have a winner!
Rob Cothern of Lithopolis, Ohio, has won this year’s 4th annual Half-Pound Hot Dog Eating Contest!
The official statistics have been calculated: Rob ate 2 lbs. 11.5 oz. of hot dogs and buns to achieve this year’s win!*
To compare, Joey Chestnut, this year’s winner of that other famous hot dog eating contest in New York, ate 61 regular hot dogs, and those dogs weigh in (without regular bun) at about 1.9 oz. each, whereas ours weigh in (without our huge bun) at 8 oz. each…. We’re thinking about sending Rob to New York next year to challenge that Chestnut! Wimpy little dogs with their puny little buns will seem like kids’ play to Rob!
Congratulations, Rob, and congratulations to all our contestants who were hungry enough and gracious enough to participate! Thanks especially to Douglas Craiglow, winner of the prior three contests. Douglas’s reaction to Robbie’s win? “That guy’s a beast!” he said admiringly.
Have any pictures of this year’s contest you’d like to share? We’d love to see them! Send to firstname.lastname@example.org. We appreciate it and we’ll post them here and on Facebook!
*Earlier reports had 3.0 lbs., but we forgot to subtract the weight of the enclosing baskets. Sorry ’bout that!
Join us for the Berne Union Music Boosters Stars and Strips in Sugar Grove festivities June 27-28!
Two days of fun at the Sugar Grove Stars and Stripes Festival 2014! This will be our first year in Sugar Grove (as vendors…we’ve traveled as a family to see the great fireworks they put on!) and we are looking forward to bringing our neighbors and friends fantastic 1/4-pound and 1/2-pound hot dogs along with root beer and creamy dreamy orange floats.
On Friday night, a huge competition for all you American Idol-wannabes: karaoke! For kids under age 14 and men and women. We’re especially looking forward to the unique jazzy, upbeat sounds of the Arnett Howard Band on Saturday night!
