5th Annual Half-Pound Hot Dog Eating Contest Offers Cash Prize
Dandy Dog! LLC and the Lancaster Fairfield Chamber of Commerce to cosponsor annual event with the 4th of July committee
This year’s contest marks the second year the winner will receive a cash prize. $100 will be given to the person who eats the most hot dogs (by weight) in 12 minutes.
Potential competitors should sign up at the Dandy Dog food booth by 4 p.m. on July 4, 2015.
The competition will be framed with music by Columbus band Third Departure from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Last year’s winner, Rob Cothern of Lithopolis, ate nearly three hot dogs (with buns) in the 12 allotted minutes.
Join Us at the Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival!
After the rides, have a Dandy Dog root beer float (or creamy dreamy orange float or strawberry float) because, man, it’s HOT!
But you’re still hungry, right? So have a 1/4 pound hot dog slathered with some meaty chili and cheese. Or how about bringing some of the Windy City with a cool Chicago Dog?
We have a winner!
Rob Cothern of Lithopolis, Ohio, has won this year’s 4th annual Half-Pound Hot Dog Eating Contest!
The official statistics have been calculated: Rob ate 2 lbs. 11.5 oz. of hot dogs and buns to achieve this year’s win!*
To compare, Joey Chestnut, this year’s winner of that other famous hot dog eating contest in New York, ate 61 regular hot dogs, and those dogs weigh in (without regular bun) at about 1.9 oz. each, whereas ours weigh in (without our huge bun) at 8 oz. each…. We’re thinking about sending Rob to New York next year to challenge that Chestnut! Wimpy little dogs with their puny little buns will seem like kids’ play to Rob!
Congratulations, Rob, and congratulations to all our contestants who were hungry enough and gracious enough to participate! Thanks especially to Douglas Craiglow, winner of the prior three contests. Douglas’s reaction to Robbie’s win? “That guy’s a beast!” he said admiringly.
Have any pictures of this year’s contest you’d like to share? We’d love to see them! Send to firstname.lastname@example.org. We appreciate it and we’ll post them here and on Facebook!
*Earlier reports had 3.0 lbs., but we forgot to subtract the weight of the enclosing baskets. Sorry ’bout that!

Not to mention…music all day performed by your favorite band members!
Dandy Dog will donate 100% of our profits during the festivities to the Band of Gold. Come down for a half-pound hot dog and a creamy root beer float! We may even have special float flavors to honor the band…you’ll just have to come find out! Click here for more info!
The West Side United Neighbors Block Watch is hosting its annual Community Days Festival this week! Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, visit us at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds to kick off the festival season. We’ll bring the dogs and floats, you bring the family and friends for rides, food, fun, and even a marble tournament and car show.

Come on Down to the Fairfield County Fair!
The last big county fair of the season, Fairfield County’s fair is full of fun rides…and great food, including Dandy Dog! We have our half-pound and quarter-pound dogs, of course, along with yummy root beer and dreamy orange floats. (Be on the lookout for a special limited-time float flavor…strawberry! I know, crazy, right? But sweet and creamy and pink!)
Look for us right behind the grandstand’s back door. While you go under the bleachers, be sure to donate to the Lancaster Band Boosters Band of Gold. The kids are raising money to travel to Washington, DC, next 4th of July for the national parade!
This year we’ll bring back our Thursday night special, Seafood Gumbo. Look for other soup specials because it’s supposed to be a beautiful fall week—sunny but not too warm during the day, and crisp at night! We’ll have some hot coffee on tap, too.
The Amanda Firefighters’ Festival starts Thursday night at 5 p.m. and includes a parade at 6 p.m.! Whee! Who doesn’t love a parade? A big highlight for the weekend is the Amanda queen and princesses will be strolling around with their sister princesses and queens from other small towns around Ohio. And at Dandy Dog, we know how much theses gorgeous courts love root beer floats! (These pictures are the Baltimore court. Come back later for Amanda court photos!)
The rides also look great this year, and the weather promises to be beautiful Friday and Saturday.
